Yesterday I loaded up the chiclets and headed to the big city to check out the Kentucky Cluster Dog Show in Louisville. As a dog lover, it is a favorite yearly experience of mine. This year the show fell on St. Patrick's Day. The Irish Wolf hounds were decked out in their best finery.
There were dogs there of all types....including the German Shorthair Pointers all line up for action.
There were the big dogs....
The small dogs....
The in-between dogs.....
And some really hyper dogs.
We were able to watch the agility trials where some incredibly fast dogs demonstrated their skills.
Some dogs were even in the stands watching the action themselves.
We even had access to the grooming loop, where clouds of dog hair floated in the air. I mean that literally.
This sweet dog was receiving a massage when I snapped this pic.
I do think he was enjoying it.
What a great event to see. I love all of the Border Collies.
ReplyDeleteI love to watch the dog shows on TV. So many different breeds and personalities. I have never been to an actual dog show though. It is something I will have to do some day.
ReplyDeletewhat fun! beauties, every one of them!
ReplyDeleteOh that looks like fun! Scooter would've liked to see all the border collies. Who look infinitely more groomed than him ;-)
ReplyDeleteWell heck, I just heard an NPR segment about massaging mules, so why not poochies?
ReplyDeleteLOVE Irish wolfhounds, but the life span is too short. I lost two dogs fairly close together and I can't take it when they're going and gone. Heartbreak.
Warm wishes across the miles,
Sharon
Interesting dog marathon, my favorites are the bigger ones...
ReplyDeleteThis, by far, would be the funnest thing I could ever think of doing! How fun!
ReplyDeleteOh, how fun. The last dog show I went to was 35 years ago. I don't know of many of them around here.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun event to go to!! I love seeing all the dogs that are picture perfect--Then I come home to mine! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love dog and cat shows.. but it's like window shopping when you can't bring one home.. :-) What is your favorite breed after looking at them all? We're enjoying our Cairn Terrier. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeletesome beautiful dogs! Our daughter has one of those "in between" dogs.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what it is called, but the thing is sooo sweet...

ReplyDeleteWhat a great experience for you and the kids -- I'd be in heaven for sure.
ReplyDeletelove all the dogs...but alas no dachshunds!
ReplyDeleteKim - My dogs are farm dogs and are FAR from picture perfect! I just enjoy dogs in general!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures as always, Michelle. The line-up of German Shorthair Pointers is an especially good photo. These days we are sans chien, but our daughter Susie got a weimaraner about two months ago and revels in seeing her puppy turn into a dog.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun!! I love watching the dog shows on TV...I bet it's a lot more fun in person;0)
ReplyDeleteLiked the dogs in the stands watching the show -- funny. Good coverage of a dog show -- almost felt like I was there. -- barbara
ReplyDeleteMassage? Ahhh... to live a dog's life...

ReplyDeleteNow here is something I have never seen a post about! Love, love the Irish wolfhounds,we had two of them many, many years ago....not often seen here in RSA. Love the teeny little doggie!
ReplyDeletei watch the akc championship every year. I don’t know why but is so calming to me. Maybe it is the voice of the host or maybe just because I love dogs!

i love the irish wolfhound, bedecked in his st. patty's day finery - i believe he is an ancestor to my beloved airedale terrier - i wonder if any of them were competing?
ReplyDeleteIt's sort of funny that your in-between dog (the Basset) and the really hyper dog (the Smooth Fox Terrier) are two of the breeds currently owned by my parents. I'll show Dad this entry the next time I'm in Smalltownland; he'll be impressed that you got a picture of the Smooth Fox. There is a famous portrait of eleven of them hanging in the AKC offices in Raleigh, NC, entitled "The Totteridge Eleven". It was the first breed to win the Westminster Best in Show-Ch. Warren Remedy, 1907- and she was the only dog to win the WKC-BIS three times. It's also the only breed I've ever taken into the show ring myself- judges frequently flip a shiny coin in front of their faces to check for the characteristic inquisitive response that owners call the "terrier tilt". The little user portrait with my comment is of my late and much-lamented SFT, Jane.

ReplyDeleteMy goodness! I don't know where to begin! Nice captures. That basset hound is cute....and the pooch sitting in the stands...and the one getting the massage....and....all of them! I would've been exhausted saying hello to each and every one. Did you encounter any basenjis by chance?
